More than 1,000 church school pupils have attended special services to mark their end of primary school education.

More than 40 church schools took part in Year Six leavers' services at Carlisle Cathedral and Kendal Parish Church, with the theme Something Inside So Strong: Jesus!.

Charlotte Tudway, Diocesan Director of Education, said: "It was wonderful that so many pupils and staff travelled to the Cathedral and Kendal for these joint celebrations of their church school life.

"There's always a wonderful sense of thanksgiving for what they've experienced in their primary schools, mixed with a sense of excitement about what's to come. The prayers of all the Diocesan Education team are with the pupils as they prepare to move on. I also give thanks to all school staff and parents who have helped them reach this important milestone and special thanks go to Kirkbampton headteacher Andrea Armstrong who helped organise the services."
