Lay Ministry
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!"
Isaiah 6:8
‘God for All’ means being a Christian presence in every community and across the whole County. There are hundreds of lay people involved in ministry in churches, workplaces, and communities across Cumbria.Often these people are humbly following a call without considering themselves or their gifting ‘special’.But these people, and their gifts, are indeed special – as they respond to God’s call.
God calls people to a wide range of ministries, lay and ordained, in our church and in our everyday lives: worship leaders, pastoral visitors, youth and children’s ministers, pioneers, chaplains, and Readers, are kinds of lay ministries. We offer support and training to those who are already active in these ministries and those who wish to be.
You can find out more about the wide range of opportunities to serve Jesus through our vocations page and on the God for All website.

Learning for Discipleship
Jesus invites each one of us to follow him. As we begin that lifelong journey, we are challenged to grow and learn and flourish as whole life disciples and to embrace life in all its fullness.
Growing Disciples for Mission is at the heart of the work of the Ministry Development Team. We believe God is for all so we seek to provide a wide range of learning opportunities to enable each and every person to discover more of God and God’s purpose for their lives.
Our learning opportunities are shaped so that you can:
- Explore who God is
- Discover more of God
- Deepen our discipleship
- Discern our unique calling
- Discover our gifts
- Be equipped to serve God, in our faith communities, in the places in which we live and work, and in the wider world.
There is a wealth of resources for Mission Communities to access.
