If Christians ‘love one another’ why are there different churches?
The present divisions of the Christian church were unknown in the first thousand years after Jesus.
The first split came in 1080 AD and then during the following centuries more and more churches divided. The present multiplicity of churches reflects the past.
In the present we are seeking to come together again and to reclaim our common identity. The ecumenical county, which was formed in 2011 and then became a covenant and companion relationship in 2016, is a sign that there is only one Christian church in Cumbria.
