The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust Conference Day
More than 70 people are to attend a special conference for teachers and support staff of all schools in the Diocese of Carlisle’s The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust.
The day event will include a presentation from keynote speaker Leanne Day, Principal Associate with TLO Ltd who will explore how a Building Learning Power programme can be used effectively in schools to lift the emphasis of lessons from ‘outstanding teaching’ to powerful learning.
Special workshops for teachers, teaching assistants and administrative staff will also focus on the provision of outstanding teaching, effective work in the classroom and best practice for sharing systems.
Delegates will be joined by members of staff from the Trust, whose head office is based on Friargate in Penrith.
Those present will also hear more from Michael Mill, the Diocesan Director of Education, Children and Young People about the Trust’s development since its launch in April 2014.
Mr Mill said: “The Trust was formed to create a collegiate and supportive network of like-minded schools and we know that events like this help to reinforce those values.
“As well as everyone present having the chance to benefit from afternoon workshop sessions and hearing from our keynote speaker, there will also be plenty of opportunity for colleagues to network and chat with each other and to learn of good practice from our partner schools which can be rolled out across our organisation.”
The Trust currently has four academy partners. Lazonby CE School was the first to join in February 2015, followed four months later by Heversham St Peter’s CE Primary. Braithwaite CE Primary School, near Keswick, joined last September with Ambleside CE School coming on board a month later. It is expected that two further schools will join the Trust within the next few months and they will be sharing in the conference.
The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust’s aim is to provide robust and sustained school effectiveness, within a Christian ethos and structure. It provides like-minded schools with the opportunity to shape their future and think about curriculum innovation, as well as looking to develop new support structures focused on the needs of the schools in the Trust.
The Chair of Trustees, the Rev’d Canon Beth Smith, said: “We’re delighted that representatives of our current partner schools and from those schools who are actively exploring the possibility of joining the Trust’s family will be with us at this event.
“Our prayer is that those present will feel energised and enthused by what they hear on the day, ahead of the start of a new academic year.”
The event will be held at the Roundthorn Country House Hotel in Penrith on Thursday 1 September from 9am to 3.30pm.
