Diocese of Carlisle’s Multi Academy Trust boost as another school joins
A third school has joined the Diocese of Carlisle's Multi Academy Trust.
Braithwaite CE Primary School, near Keswick, officially converted to become a MAT member on Tuesday 1 September.
A special assembly attended by the Bishop of Penrith, the Rt Rev’d Robert Freeman is to be held at the school on Tuesday 8 September to mark the announcement.
Michael Mill, the diocese's Director of Education, Children and Young People, said: “It is wonderful news to have another school commit to The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust.
“This is now the third school to become a member of the MAT. It demonstrates a growing understanding amongst schools of the collegiate benefits that joining the Trust will bring. As the MAT continues to grow so too will the support structure between partner schools.
“This collaborative approach is even more important as schools face up to growing challenges through the government’s changing agenda, tighter budgets and falling rolls.”
The Trust’s ultimate aim is to provide robust and sustained school effectiveness, within a Christian ethos and structure.
It provides like-minded schools with the opportunity to shape their future and think about curriculum innovation, as well as looking to develop new support structures focused on the needs of the schools in the Trust.
Lazonby CE Primary was the first school to join The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust in February of this year. It was followed in June by Heversham St Peter’s CE Primary School.
Headteacher Jo Laker said: “I welcome the support of the Trust in providing challenge and support for me in my ever changing role and feel confident that being part of this family of schools will help us to focus on what matters most to our pupils and parents.”
Braithwaite’s pupils will be joined by staff, governors and directors of the Trust at Tuesday’s assembly to mark the school having officially joined the MAT, with Bishop Robert presenting a letter of welcome.
Joint Chairs of the local Governing Body, the Rev’d Peter Vivash and Martin Head, said: “It was important for the school that the Trust is rooted in the same Christian principles as the school, valuing each pupil as an individual and treating all members of the school community with integrity and honesty.
“The school hopes we can be stronger together than we would be as small individual schools and that it can be part of shaping the development of the Trust as it grows.”
