new Trustees for Diocese

Carlisle Diocesan Board of Finance is looking for new Trustees

You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matt 6:24).

But could you, or someone you know, help to look after the money financing God’s work here in Cumbria?

The role

The Trustees of the Diocesan Board of Finance are looking for new members.

The Board’s role is to make sure that money entrusted to the Church of England in Cumbria is used well for the growing of God’s Kingdom here. It’s a partnership of clergy and laity.

Meetings are worthwhile and fun, with good robust discussions.

The skills

Why not extend your skills in a fresh context? We need people who are able to contribute to strategic discussions and we want to strengthen five key areas:

  • HR (Human Resources)

  • risk management

  • innovation & enterprise

  • education – because the Diocese is setting up a Multi Academy Trust

  • representation and inclusivity: we would welcome candidates who are female and/or younger; we probably have enough clergy

Above all we need people who are independent and uninhibited – ready to express contrary views which could test current ways of thinking and doing things.

The commitment

  • There are six meetings a year (on alternate months) plus a couple of extras, held mainly in Carlisle, though we could change this; in addition, Trustees will need to attend the Diocesan Synod meeting as the DBF (three times a year).

  • The meetings are generally held during day time but we recognise we may need to change this.

  • You will need to be willing to devote sufficient time in preparation in order to understand the issues coming up.

  • Expenses may be claimed.

There are four ex officio Trustees, five elected Trustees, and up to two co-opted Trustees; we have vacancies for one elected Trustee and one co-opted Trustee.

The reward

One trustee said: “I feel that this post gives me the chance to use my life and work experience as a service to God; you could say it was a calling.”
